4-23-10
The Boys team will be heading to the Hurricane
Invitational and the Eastern Relays this coming Saturday.
Most of the athletes will compete at Hurricane, while 5
distance runners will travel to Louisville, Ky for their
toughest competition of the season on the University of
Louisville's track.
The Eastern Relays has nearly 40 teams with
some of the best programs from Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana,
Michigan, & Illinois
competing in this meet. Midland's, Jacob Burcham, is undefeated
in the 800, 1600, & 3200 meter runs this season, but goes
into Saturday's meet ranked 6th in the 1600 and 9th in the
800 meters. This competition will definitely challenge
Burcham and allow him to know exactly what shape he's in so
far this season. If weather permits, he will attempt to
break the varsity school record of 4:23.79 set back in 2002
by Richard Kitching. Predicted weather for this weekend is
possible thunderstorms with 11-15 mph winds. The wind could
gust up to 25-30 mph, which could make record setting a hard
task to accomplish.
Midland's 4x800 of Ryan Smith, David Jobe,
Brian Lawhon, & Matthew Edmunds are currently ranked number
#1 in West Virginia with a time of 8:25, but face
their strongest field at the Eastern Relays. Midland's 4x800
goes into the meet ranked number #8 and face teams with
times ranging from 7:58 to 8:25. They will be tested on
Saturday and plan to come away with a new PR for the season.
