On Nov. 1st, Cabell Midland High School played host to runners and spectators from across West Virginia for the 2008 State Cross Country Championship. Cabell Midland
has hosted the meet since 2006 and will continue as host through 2011. Members of the WVSSAC were pleased with the outcome of the past three state championships at Cabell Midland and only had praise for all the volunteers and professionalism that Cabell Midland puts into the state meet. There were 341 runners who qualified for the State Championship and a record crowd was on hand to cheer these runners to a great performance. Cabell Midland's boys' team placed a strong 3rd place and was led by senior Trey Beckett. Midland's girls placed 7th overall and were led by junior Brittany Taft. Wheeling Park's boys won the AAA state title and Morgantown's Cody Pelliccioni won the individual state title. The girls from University won the AAA girls team title, while Letitia Propst from Elkins was crowned the individual champion. In the AA-A division, Ravenswood won their 9th straight state title in a row. Berkeley Springs Lenny Roach won the individual state title. On the girls' side, Shady Spring won the girls AA-A state title, while Frankfort's Rebekah McBride won the individual state crown.
