Jacob Burcham waited until the the hill before the 1st mile marker to take command of the boys varsity race. This would be Burcham's and also Cabell Midland's first trip to the Maymont XC Festival in Richmond, Va. Burcham set two goals for himself, which was to win and also set a new meet record. He did both by running 15:28 on the hilly 3.1 miles While Burcham was busy winning, his teammates were racing to see how they stacked up against some powerhouses from the east coast. Avery Campbell, Jeremy Waugh, Andrew Short, Brian Lawhon, Nick Salmons, and David Jobe all turned in solid performances and came away with the runner-up trophy. It would Serena Park from Maryland using a tight pack to win the team title.
In the Boys Reserve varsity, Midland's depth proved too strong for any challengers and the Knights came away with the team title. It would be Mason Dino 3rd place overall leading the Knights with teammate, Brandon Atkinson, one spot back in 4th place. Eric Wooten would be next for the Knights followed by Austin Jarrell and Hunter Adkins. All 5 runners finished in the top 16. While most of Midland's girl runners were back in West Virginia preparing for the Homecoming dance, there were three who opted to skip the dance and go elbow to elbow among some very tough competition in the girls varsity race. Jorden Thornton was first to cross the line followed by Hannah Morgan and Alex Ellis. The Knights will finally be competing in West Virginia in 11 days for the MSAC Championship in Ripley, WV. Cabell Midland has only competed in West Virginia once this season and it was back on September 1st at the Geico Classic. Comments are closed.
