ONA - More than 1,400 runners representing nearly 200 high schools and middle schools ran Saturday in the St. Mary's Medical Center XC Festival hosted by Cabell Midland High School. West Virginia's largest cross country meet was run at night under stadium lights and portable light towers. n Parkersburg won the Class AAA boys team championship with 48 points. Hurricane was second with 53 followed by Preston 95, Cabell Midland 99 and Wheeling Park 125. Jacob Biruakis from George Washington was the AAA boys winner with a time of 16 minutes, 24 seconds. Tri-State runners finishing in the top 10 were Justin Belcher, Hurricane, fourth, 16:58; Jackson Gibson, Cabell Midland, sixth, 17:05; Brian Middaugh, Hurricane, ninth, 17:15; and John Casey, Hurricane, 10th, 17:16. n Parkersburg was also the Class AAA girls winner with 75 points. Cabell Midland was a close second with 79 followed by Ripley 104, Wheeling Park 107 and Hurricane 120. Victoria Starcher from Ripley led the field with a winning time of 18:16. Anya Miller from Cabell Midland was seventh with a time of 20:22. Winnie Mayes from Huntington High placed 10th with a time of 20:49. n Winfield runner Aaron Withrow was the Class AA/A boys winner with a time of 16:26. Luke Lumadue from Winfield was seventh with a time of 17:00. Lexington (Ky.) Christian beat Ritchie County in a close team race for first place, 146 to 148. Bridgeport (152), Winfield (186) and East Fairmont (198) followed. n Bridgeport edged Winfield for first place in the Class AA/A girls team standings, 96 to 99. Williamstown (146) was third followed by East Fairmont (157) and Fairland (1159). Individual winner Erykah Christopher from East Fairmont had a time of 19:53. Savannah Hoff (20:10) from Winfield was fourth (20:10) and Madi Michels (20:14) from Buffalo was fifth. Sydney Smith (20:31) from Buffalo was eighth, Rebekah Howard (20:40) from Ashland placed ninth and Clara Blankenship (20:41) of Winfield placed 10th. n Cabell Midland finished first in the boys junior varsity race with 52 points. Hurricane took second place with 55. Hurricane runner Austin Casey was the individual winner with a time of 18:01 and runner-up Seth Chapman from Cabell Midland finished with a time of 18:33. n Lexi Sergent from Hurricane was the girls junior varsity race winner with a time of 22:45. Parkersburg was first in the team race with 48 points followed by Cabell Midland with 54. n Matthew Scheneberg led Winfield to the boys middle school team title with a winning time of 11:30. Runner-up Cooper Gibson from Milton had a time of 11:35. n Tori Fisher (12:48) of Ripley finished first in the girls middle school race. Williamstown was the team winner. Comments are closed.
