Midland Sweeps Cross Country Titles at Dragons Run

Trey Beckett's winning performance led the Cabell Midland boys to the team title Saturday in the Dragons Run by the River cross country meet.
 
Cabell Midland also won the girls team title.
 
The Knights rolled to the boys championship with 21 points. Wheelersburg was second with 70 followed by host Fairland 93, Huntington High 117, Spring Valley 127 and Ironton 176.
 
Beckett ran the 5K course with a time of 17:37.37.
 
Justin Kammler from Portsmouth Notre Dame was the runner-up (17:41.98) and Huntington High runner Luke Finley placed third (17:50.64).
 
The Midland Knights also took places four through sixth with Ryan Smith (18:00.54), Corey Miller (18:02.13) and Michael Niemann (18:15) respectively. Cabell Midland won the girls 5K meet with 35 points. Runner-up Gallipolis had 50 followed by Wheelersburg 80, Huntington High 85 and Fairland 95.
Gallipolis runner Peyton Adkins placed first among the girls with a time of 19:22.09.
 
Sarah Ruggles from Wheelersburg (21:05.61) was second and Alex Georgel-Walz from the Huntington Highlanders was third with a time of 21:40.89). Skie Taylor from Covenant School finished fifth (21:57.61 and Brittany Taft from Cabell Midland placed sixth 22:14.32).
Fairland won the boys 3,200-meter middle school event. Max Conley from Wheeleersburg was the lead runner with a time of 11:39.02. Milton claimed the girls 3,200-meter middle school title, led by Jorden Thornton in first place with a time of 13:00.38.
