Despite not having their top 4 runners, Midland's depth proved too strong for the field at the Rio Grande Invitational. Led by Freshman sensations, Andrew Short and Nick Salmons, the two runners finished 5th & 8th with only a 3 second separation. Short would run 17:08, while Salmons ran 17:11. Eric Wooten would cross in 11th place with teammates, David Jobe in 16th place and Hunter Adkins in 20th place rounding out Midland top 5 runners.. A split of only 51 seconds between 1 thru 5 gave Midland a 10 point win over Thomas Worthington High School. In the girls division, Jorden Thornton would lead the Lady Knights with a 9th place finish in a time of 20:21. Freshman, Hannah Morgan, finished 19th in a time of 21:19 followed by Kelsey Dillon (22:20-38th), Alex Ellis (22:23-40th), and Kendall McNeely (22:30-46th) to round out Midland's top 5 runners. The girls would finish a solid 5th in the team standings.
Midland's quad-runners of Jacob Burcham, Avery Campbell, Brian Lawhon, and Jeremy Waugh all had a scheduled MaxVo2 work-out scheduled for this day. Burcham was also on an official visit at Ohio State, but got his work-out in on the Jesse Owens track in Columbus, Ohio. A select group of runners will be traveling next weekend for the Maymont XC Festival in Richmond, Va. The meet is considered one of the top meets in the nation for that weekend. Comments are closed.
