WINFIELD, W.Va. - Winfield High School scored a sweep Saturday in the Dick Dunlap Classic held at Winfield High School. On the girls side, the Generals ruled in the distance races and relays to capture the title with 161 points. Bridgeport was second with 96 and Cabell Midland third with 67. On the boys side, Winfield enjoyed a strong showing in relays and won the title with 107 points. Huntington High was second with 94. Mary Zulauf won the 800 and Rachel Englund won the 1600 and 3200 to lead the Generals. Winfield won the 4x100, 4x200, 4x800 and shuttle hurdle relays. And in field events, the Generals got first in the high jump and long jump. Huntington's Safiyyah Mitchel won the 100 hurdles and placed second in the 300 hurdles. Ericka Budd won the shot put and placed third in the discus. Bridgeport's McKenna Smith prevailed in the sprints, winning the 100, 200 and 400.
Winfield's boys won the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays. Mikey Null won the pole vault for the Generals. Huntington High got wins from Dezmon Bradshaw in the 110 hurdles, Hunter Ashley in the discus, Ryan McGuffin in the long jump and shuttle hurdles. Wayne's Kade Sebastian won the 100 and Cabell Midland's Hunter Hicks came out on top in the shot put. Next weekend, many area teams will compete in the Gazette Relays at Laidley Field in Charleston.
